it never fails

i am learning how to hunt tigers.

in good weather we venture out
into the jungle
and hang our bloodied shirts
from vines;

then we sit below them
in meditative states
and calmly call
for lions instead.

#2: this is probably one of my favourites of yours. It's such a powerful piece. Everything is a tool.

I agree with Mike this is made of awesome. The two last lines made the entire piece for me.

M&CSMC. I love this, especially the last two lines.

"Lion...lion...lion..."

lol!

I love the irony of the title. Thumbs up!

Absolutely phenomenal! Gotta jump on the bandwagon of thinking this is one of my favourite pieces of yours.

The imagery was just wonderful. Also, I don't know if you intended this, or if anyone else experienced it this way (I'm an abnormally visual reader so probably not), but I love all the different colours this invoked, as though it really was dead center in the middle of a bright jungle. So yes, how I saw it in my mind was orange (tigers), green (jungle), red (bloody shirts), green (vines), and yellow (lions). Yeah, so really irrelevant but mostly everything else has been said and I figured I'd mention it :)

Definitely the last few lines were the best part of the poem, and the opening line is also just fantastic. The title is really interesting as well, in juxtaposition with the tone of the poem. There is the suggestion of unfaltering success, and yet there's such foreshadowing of failure in the bloodied shirts and wishing for lions rather than tigers. So yes, really interesting play there.
