This is for the homeless kids

This is for the homeless kids

Acceptance becomes apathetic
Let’s just accept that
These people have problems
We won’t try to help them
Because
We accept it
I’m sorry I don’t agree
With this policy of apathy
I mean
This policy of acceptance
We’ve just become complacent
And we’d rather do nothing
And say we accept
Than admit these things are unacceptable
And we need to do something about them.

So that’s right, walk away.
Don’t look back
Too afraid to look pain
In the face
See what you’ve created
Don’t want to hear what the child has to say
The well deserved slap in the face
Maybe would shake you out of your selfish ways
Your totally self-absorbed attitude

We all have eyes,
but we don’t want to see,
We all have ears,
but we don’t want to listen,
We all have feelings,
but we push them away.

We don’t want to pay attention,
to our conscience,
we don’t want to feel,
anything bad,
we don’t want to admit,
anything’s wrong,
and we will drown before we concede we are wet,
we won’t realise there’s a problem,
until someone dies,
and no one will try to fix it,
until more are killed.

So can you see
Can you hear
Can you sense
That something’s wrong

Shattered glass shattered dreams someone who is shattered screams
Losing hope, looking down
Wanting to fall never hit the ground
Walking, tripping, running away
The pain always follows finding a way
Lying, wishing for something else
Wanting to be saved but not sure if you deserve it
Self-centered maybe, but desperation wants salvation
Try to disappear, wishing the pain would
But it always reappears, as soon
As it sees vulnerability, a break
In the shield that protects your heart,
It invades takes over
Try to hide, lie, make it vanish
But someone else needs to rescue us
Because we’re too far gone

She laughs and tells me to accept it
Crack, coke, heroin, meth
Even if you’re with friends
It doesn’t matter who you’re tripping with
It’s still dangerous

It is part of our reality
We need to change our mentality
We aren’t living in fantasy
But don’t worry, we are only temporary
And our excuse is life is short
But it’s the longest thing we experience

It is part of our reality
We need to change our mentality
And realise our actions have consequences
We can’t go on believing getting by is effortless.

Let everyone be
Themselves.
You can give advice,
But only they can decide to change

Accepting the rest of humanity

Doesn’t mean that you can’t try
To change the world.

We are so concerned with global aid
And the children in other countries
That our own homeless children
Are
Unnoticed, Unaided, Uncared for
Let’s build a school in a third world somewhere
Doesn’t matter that our school system,
that we are imposing in nameless towns
in countries you can’t find on a map,
is supposed to work for people who have grown up in our western civilisation
and even then how many kids slip through the cracks.
But our way must be better-best for everyone
We are so concerned with global aid
And the children in other countries
That our own homeless children
Are
Unnoticed, Unaided, Uncared for

this is for the homeless kids
the boys on the street
the girls who aren’t
‘cause they’re sleeping in men’s beds
this is for the children who feel they have no other choice
and those who really don’t
the girls who sell,
all they have left
the kids who substance abuse
who deal, who burn, trip, take a ride,
who Die
of strangulation
naked from the waist down
buried in an unmarked grave
the nameless dead
and we’re not concerned
and what about the kids abducted from their home
from the sidewalks they’ve known
since they could crawl
these kids who are never found… alive

But who cries
for the dead runaways
the dead orphans
the dead homeless
Who visits their graves

'Shattered glass shattered dreams someone who is shattered screams'

Loves it.

I think it's tough, though, because of its length, to keep something so broken up. I mean, it's just so incredibly...'one line, one line, one line, one line' that it loses its effect after a while.
But I do like what's actually written. This is just a comment on its..um...composition?

It's so broken up and carries on for so long that interest is lost to easily :S

Thanks Tabs, I see what you mean, but what would you cut? or is there something to make it less broken up so the length isn't a problem?
